Aitutaki: what to bring, because the shops are small
📍 Aitutaki, Cook Islands
Where
Aitutaki
Opening hours
Shops keep short hours; very limited on Sunday
Typical cost
Groceries cost more than on Rarotonga
Aitutaki has shops, but they are small, the stock depends on when the boat came, and prices reflect the freight.
Bring from Rarotonga
- Sunscreen — especially reef-safe.
- Insect repellent.
- Any medication you rely on.
- Snacks and anything particular you like to drink.
- Cash. ATM access is limited and cards are less widely accepted.
Do not bother bringing
Fresh fruit — it is better there anyway.
Baggage
Inter-island flights have a tighter allowance than the international leg. Pack light and leave the big bag on Rarotonga.
💡 Local tip
Buy sunscreen, insect repellent and any specific medication on Rarotonga before you fly. On Aitutaki they are dearer when available and sometimes simply are not.
