Peak season costs more

The Cook Islands sit at around 21° south, so it is warm all year. The seasons differ in rainfall and humidity rather than in whether you can swim.

Drier season, roughly May to October

Cooler, less humid, less rain. This is peak season: prices are higher and the better accommodation books out well ahead. Best for walking and for anyone who finds humidity hard work.

Wetter season, roughly November to April

Hotter, more humid, more rain — usually heavy and brief rather than all day. Fewer visitors and lower prices. This is also the cyclone season; direct hits are uncommon but worth having travel insurance for.

The water

Swimmable all year. The lagoon does not get cold.

💡 Local tip
The shoulder months either side of the busy season are the sweet spot — warm water, fewer people, and accommodation that has not been booked out for a year.
