Varies
It rains in Rarotonga, particularly between November and April, and it rains properly. It also usually stops.
What still works in the rain
- Swimming. You are already wet, the lagoon is warm, and the beaches empty out.
- The national museum and the library in Avarua.
- Shopping in Avarua, black pearl showrooms, galleries.
- A massage or spa treatment.
What to postpone
- The Cross-Island Track. It becomes genuinely dangerous when the stream is up.
- Scooter trips, unless you are confident. The road surface changes character quickly.
- Lagoon cruises may be cancelled — operators will tell you.
The upside
Wigmore's Waterfall is at its best after rain, and so is the light.
💡 Local tip
Do not cancel the day. Rarotongan rain often clears within the hour, and the light afterwards is the best of the day for photographs.
