Travelling to the Cook Islands: entry, health and insurance
A few practical matters worth settling before you travel. Entry requirements change, so confirm the current position with official sources rather than relying on any guide, including this one.
Health
There is a hospital in Rarotonga and health centres on the outer islands. Routine matters are handled locally. Anything serious means evacuation to New Zealand.
Insurance
Medical evacuation cover is the part that matters. Also worth checking: whether your policy covers scooter riding, which many exclude unless you hold the right licence, and whether it covers activities like diving.
On the outer islands
Medical facilities are basic and a flight away from Rarotonga. Bring any medication you rely on, in sufficient quantity, in its original packaging.
